I also have a sneaking suspicion that were the genders reversed and that one famous man openly had two simultaneous relationships with two women, it would cause the ire of the sisterhood and of ‘family values’ to rain down upon all involved.
I wonder if Tilda Swinton’s non-monogamous relationship would raise more eyebrows if she was more conventionally attractive. Don’t get me wrong, I think she’s a striking woman. I very much like that there are words and names that are spelled almost nothing like the way that they are pronounced. Lieutenant (which should be pronounced LEFF-tennant) is one of the most obvious, but I think my favourite is the surname St John, which when it is the appellation of a fallen aristocrat (ie often) is pronounced SIN-jun.
