It Takes A Nation Of Millions to Hold Us Back is probably the high-water mark for Public Enemy. The Bomb Squad’s production is unmistakeable, Chuck’s rapping is bewilderingly good, and the message is polemic without succumbing to the self-conscious bloat of later PE records.
This filmclip for Night of The Living Baseheads captures all of that exceptionally well, but it’s also an example of what is probably my favourite thing in all art –– precariousness. It’s like a big messy tower built from glass and hammers.
