Who needs a unifying theme anyway?

If your commitment to free speech does not extend to people whom you find offensive or distasteful, then you and I can never be allies. I believe in the clash of ideas, and you believe in resolving that clash through oppression.

I find Andrew Bolt distasteful and irresponsible. But I do not find him as distasteful as the Catch The Fire Ministries, nor as irresponsible as the Rabelais Four and I defended the right of both to say what they said without fear of action through the mechanism of the State.

The Left’s loss of faith in universal natural rights has been a partial catalyst for the apparent rightward drift of many public intellectuals and political movements. Cases like this make it hard to say I blame them.
