The biggest investment Labor could make in atoning for the madness of the past 12 months would be to back the leader they put in at Rudd’s expense, even if she was the wrong choice; to accept the consequences, not seek cynically to circumvent them. This would display two attributes that used to mean something in Labor politics: loyalty and character.
