Who needs a unifying theme anyway?

I follow @abc774 on twitter, which is, for the uninitiated, the twitter account of a radio station.

They tweeted this: “tweetback - waleed asks : how has america influenced you - what do you like about the US?”

Waleed Aly is one of my favourite cultural commentators, so I figured I’d respond, and then tweeted the following: “I both admire & despair at Exceptionalism. At best it’s a force for the spread of good. At worst it’s an excuse for anything.”

Aaaaand then turned on the radio to hear what was going on.

What was going on was Waleed Aly read out my tweet, and asked the person he was interviewing to respond to it. Who was none other than United States Consul-General to Melbourne Michael Thurston. His response was clever, nuanced, and far superior to the question.

But, that was a thing. Today’s been pretty damned odd.
