Who needs a unifying theme anyway?

I also do Stuff My Girlfriend Says which is a lot funnier than this. Mostly because my girlfriend is funnier than me.

Australian perennials You Am I’s best record was probably Hi Fi Way (itms link). The odd man out on the LP was the last track, ‘How Much Is Enough’, which wails and soars at the end as though the lead part was cribbed from the Teenage Fanclub. Which it probably was, but who cares? This is fantastic track that closed off the album that for me defined 1994 –- my last year at university.

(EDIT: Warning - boring personal stuff follows. May contain traces of self-aggrandizement.)

By 1995 I’d mostly stopped playing drums in bands, knocked back offers of cadetships at a couple of newspapers (I’d been studying journalism), and was working nights at a prepress house teaching myself design by fixing other peoples’ mistakes. By the end of 1995, I was the Art Director of Qantas’ inflight magazine.

“How much is enough” makes me think about all of that change. Fondly.
