Change, and ownership.
I used to go to Fark.com (and totalfark.com) a great deal. I ‘met’ some awesome people from that site, a lot of whom I’m still in touch with, and one of whom I convinced to drop everything and move to Australia.
But Fark changed, or I did, and I don’t go there any more. I railed against the changes for a while, but eventually realised that as much as I wanted it to be the case, it wasn’t my site. It belonged to someone else. So I got over it.
Same with this most recent thing we’re all up in arms about. I’ve ‘met’ some great people as a result of it, become aware of a whole range of people, and I honestly believe in Swamibooba’s characterisation of the Favrd Crowd as a culture engine.
What I’ll miss from Favrd is its ability to introduce me to new minds, not its ‘we’re all wonderful, here have a star’ group hug aspect.
But, like I learned from Fark, I’ll get over it. I suspect you will too.
