What Apple needs to do now « Adam Greenfield’s Speedbird
My hope for some time has been that this hokeyness is part of a long-term plan – that in ditching the files/folder/desktop metaphors Apple decided that we needed some interface elements that reminded us of the analogue forms they are intended to replace.
I’m concerned now, that Apple just doesn’t actually care about its included apps all that much. For a device like the iPad to not have a to-do list (yes, a bugbear of mine) is tantamount to a slap in the face of people who intend to actually use the thing all the time. Ostensibly, the Calendar app replaces a diary. It even looks like a diary (for no good reason). But it does not have any way for me to track the things I am meant to do in a given day, unless they are appointments.
It strikes me that there’s a belligerence creeping into some of the decisions made by people working on iOS Apps internally at Apple. I could be mollified if I thought there was a true reason for these decisions. Sadly, I suspect that the only reason is neglect.
